Heather Semeniuk

Heather Semeniuk, Head Coach

Heather Semeniuk enters her fifteenth year as head coach for the women's program at UBC Okanagan. Coach "Sem" played for UBC when she was a student and has stayed involved with the sport ever since by coaching at several levels.

Heather loves coaching basketball and strives to coach the whole athlete. In her coaching philosophy, she emphasizes mental preparation and training, nutrition, health and well-being, and individual and team goal-setting.

The 2008/09 year looks to be an exciting year for Heather, with many promising recruits as well as outstanding returning players. She is also looking forward to working once again with her son, Marc, as assistant coach.

In three consecutives seasons – from 2003/04 through 2005/06 – Heather's team won bronze at the BCCAA Provincial Championships. For the 2006/07 season, Heather took her charges to the BCCAA Provincial Championship game and came home with the gold. This led to an exciting 4th place finish in Edmonton at the CCAA National Championship.  In 2007/08, Heather led the Lakers to a third place finish at the BCCAA Provincial Championships.

Marc Semeniuk

Marc Semeniuk, Assistant Coach

An experienced player and coach, Marc Semeniuk is entering his second year as assistant coach for the woman's basketball program at UBC Okanagan. Marc played high school ball at Kelowna Secondary School and received many all-star and MVP awards. After graduating, he played two years at SFU before moving on to the University of Alberta. During his three years at U of A, his team won two CIS National Championships, and Marc was a silver medalist.

Marc is starting his ninth year as a high school teacher. Before taking on the assistant coach role at UBC Okanagan, he held various head coaching positions at the high school and club levels.

Marc brings a great understanding of the game to his coaching. He loves working with young people and relates easily to them. He has the ability to bring the best out of a person and help them develop into the best player possible. Marc also has an extensive background in physical fitness training.  He helped to lead the Lakers to a bronze medal at the BCCAA Provincial Championships in the 2007/08 season.

Marc and his wife, Richelle, have two young boys, Joel and Jake, who can be spotted watching Heat home games and cheering on the team.
